In The Country With Concrete People.

We went to a place called Wat Thawet today. It's quite hard to describe. Basically this old monk started to rebuild an old Wat that was already there, then went and had a dream, then started to build this monument / shrine / dream / whatever you can call it. It's a series of concrete people, all life size. Some sections illustrate the story of Budda's life, some are part of his dream, images of hell and alike. Other parts are of Buddhist fairy-stories. All this stuff is crammed together in quite a small site. Great place and different from the usual stuff we have seen.

There is a part with every aspect of Buddha represented. Apparently there is a stance for each day of the week, related to the day you were born. So we looked our day up, and had our picture taken with the Buddha that related to us. All good fun! Sam's was 'Reflection', Buddha with his arms crossed over his chest, which represents Friday. Mine, mine was Buddha with an alms bowl, which represented Wednesday.

When we got back to the Guest House the lady who is running for her sister, while she is on holiday, seemed quite impressed that we had negotiated public transport out into the country and back again. It was quite an achievement, as Sam nearly died, when I told her I'd seen a spider. It was pretty big I have to say. Thing is though it wasn't anywhere near Sam, and as she ran off, she ran towards where it was! The bus soon arrived and rescued us from the terrible beast.

Oh yes, by the way, I slew a dragon yesterday. While riding on my white charger. Well pink actually, and it was a push-bike, and the dragon was a snake that slithered out in front of me. But I did kill it. I think!

Off to Chang Mai tomorrow.
